Simply, Immune Boosting
As we transition into Spring the immune system can be weakened by the particles in the air causing Hay Fever, the change in temperature and barometric pressure, less sleep as the days gets longer, and so many other factors. Spring is a beautiful time and we want to make the most of the increased daylight hours, so we must support our immune system and energy levels so we’re healthy enough to soak it all up!
One of the most simple and delicious ways to boost your immune system is by drinking honey, lemon and ginger tea. So yum and so healthy.
By consuming local honey you’re introducing the local pollens and particles into your system in microdoses so that the body begins to get use to it, which helps to lessen the symptoms of Hay Fever. Honey is also anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal with antioxidant properties; simple put, honey helps to battle pathogens and increase the effectiveness of our immune systems.
Lemons contain vitamin C, which is a primary antioxidant that helps protect cells from damaging free radicals and boosts immunity. The warm water serves to stimulate the gastrointestinal tract and peristalsis—the waves of muscle contractions within the intestinal walls that keep things moving. Lemons are also high in minerals and vitamins and help loosen toxins stuck in the digestive tract.
Lemon juice helps flush out unwanted materials because lemons increase the rate of urination in the body, they’re a diuretic. This mean toxins are released at a faster rate, keeping the body healthy and free from waste build up. Adding lemons to warm water, or drinking honey, lemon and ginger tea daily, helps keep you hydrated, which helps prevent illness and adrenal fatigue. When your body is dehydrated, or deeply dehydrated (adrenal fatigue) it can’t perform all of it’s proper functions, which leads to toxic buildup, stress, constipation, and so on. Your adrenals are two small glands that sit on top of your kidneys, and along with your thyroid, create energy. They also secrete important hormones, including aldosterone. Aldosterone is a hormone secreted by your adrenals that regulates water levels and the concentration of minerals, like sodium, in your body, helping you stay hydrated. Your adrenals are also responsible for regulating your stress response. Basically, keep these guys happy and hydrated so that they can support the overall healthy functioning of many bodily functions, in turn supporting immunity.
Ginger has been found in the scientific research to help balance the immune system to restore it to proper functioning. Ginger has also been found to enhance the protective functions of the immune system as it is a potent antioxidant and protects against free radical and oxidative damage within the body.
By combining these three ingredients with hot water we create a beautiful immune boosting elixir.
